CUPE's conflict allegation falls flat

underutilization and expense. CUPE Local 543 president Jean Fox reportedly believes the administrator is in a conflict. The administrator is considering legal action for defamation. There is reference that the city’s code of conflict was violated. It’s interesting that CUPE would raise this issue. Where, please, would be this hypothetical conflict? First of all, the matter isn’t even over a direct member of someone’s family but a relationship by marriage. Even if it was a sibling the allegation would be a stretch. The Ontario Human Rights Code prevents discrimination on the basis of family status. This means immediate family such as “being in a child and parent relationship.” Surely a union that prides itself on social equality wouldn’t stoop to use family status – and extended family at that - as a ground to allege conflict. Message to the union: the daycare fight is over, time to move on.
