Housing starts, for example, at 257 are up a whopping 95 per cent over the first six months of 2009.
And at 2583 units changing hands sales of existing homes are up almost 25 per cent over the same period a year ago.
But in the depths of the recession, during the first six months of 2009, 115 upper end homes were sold.
“Where there’s wealth there’s always going to be wealth,” Vozza said. “And I don’t think the higher end homes were affected (by the recession) as much.”
She said that as the market picks up what is happening is that there is more “equilibrium” across all price ranges “whereas before you had an increase on the low, low end and an increase on the high end, and in the middle you were kind of sloped.”
