Chatham lunch with Fergie Jenkins (con't)
While with the Chicago Cubs from 1966-73 Jenkins achieved a record six straight 20 win seasons, taking the 1971 Cy Young pitching award.
In 1974, after being traded to Texas, he won the American League Comeback Player of the Year award for winning 25 games.
He is a three-time all star and in 1991 was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N. Y., the only Canadian so honoured.
A little known fact is that Jenkins played basketball with the Harlem Globetrotters.
He is also considered the anchor of the 14 Black Aces, a group of African-American (even though he is African-Canadian) pitchers with at least 20 wins in one season.
He retired from Chicago in 1983.
He was inducted into the Order of Canada in 2007.
