Hurst as county statesman? (con't)

opt for the kneejerk damning of the city that is so typical of county politicians. For example, after the city decided to close daycares – including a couple it ran in the county – other politicians railed that Windsor hadn’t consulted them and were vowing retaliation over shared services. Not Hurst. He described such sentiments as “drama.” He said the decision still gives municipalities, including his own, several months to come up with a solution. And he suggested it does no one good to constantly be sniping at each another. And then this week Hurst said Essex County should hold firm on grants to Hotel-Dieu Grace, Windsor Regional Hospital and the McGivney Children’s Centre. Other county politicos said the county might review future grants because Windsor, facing a cash crunch, may not support the institutions. Hurst said the county contributed money not based on Windsor’s decision but on “what we felt was right.”
