Arts & crafts come to LaSalle's Vollmer
But WEA president Carolyne Rourke says community centres can express all aspects of a municipality, whether it is hockey, swimming, or crafts. Why wouldn’t a sports and recreation centre be a facility “that centres on the full enjoyment of the quality of life,” she asked. The weekend kicks off Friday at 7 pm. Most of the events take place Saturday and Sunday. Not only will there be more than 30 local artists and craftspeople exhibiting but there will be art workshops and lots of live entertainment. And while the arts and crafts demonstrations are taking place, recreation activities continue. “So the people going to hockey games can stroll up and down and see all the fine arts and crafts, there will be entertainment,” Rourke said. There will also be free skating and swimming on Sunday. Exhibits include paintings, jewellery, wood carving, photography, digital art and stained glass. Part of the weekend’s goal is to show the public that WEA benefits “all residents in this region, thereby improving the quality of life,” says a press release. The organization makes available arts grants and will tell the public about them at the event. There will also be kids’ activities. Among the performers are the Greater Windsor Concert Band, song writers Tim Bradley and Keith Stiner, children’s author Kim Seguin, and the Spirit of Windsor Marching Band. Theatre Windsor actors will perform music and scenes from “The Best Little Christmas Pageant Ever.” Organizers say it’s where people can purchase “one of a kind” holiday gifts. WindsorOntarioNews.com
