The beauty is that audiences see the films simultaneously regardless of city.
“So if you’re in Windsor (others) are seeing it in downtown Toronto at the exact same time,” he said.
The festival has been around seven years but five in Windsor.
Asked why the festival screens at this time, when attendance might be lower, LaDouceur said, “We counter-program it during Super Bowl weekend.
“So if you’re not watching the Super Bowl, if you’re a fan boy and into geeky movies … we’ve got something for you.”
What’s the deal with “digital?”
LaDouceur said when the studios converted from 35 mm to digital they also remastered for Blu-ray and created hi-res digital versions.
A lot of the films “were sitting on old scratched 35 mm prints … so it took us a couple of years before there was enough content to really expand the festival and now we’re 100 per cent digital.”
Festival titles widely vary, from a cop double bill like Dirty Harry and Beverly Hills Cop, to Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal and Mad Max: Fury Road.
Coincidentally it also has Henson’s Labyrinth.
“We put that in before (David) Bowie passed which was really surprising,” LaDouceur said.
“But it’s been an audience favourite, it’s one of those films that’s grown to become a favorite with audiences after its theatrical release.”
Ticket prices vary depending how many you buy.
LaDouceur, by the way, says he still misses old Windsor cinema haunts like the Vanity and Palace downtown and the Forest Glade Cinemas.
"I grew up in there and I guess I got such a good enough taste of movies that when I came to Toronto I started working part time as an usher while I went to college."
